Sides Charges Back From Early Incident to Earn Top Five at Cedar Lake

Inside Line Promotions - NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 11, 2017) - Jason Sides produced a pair of strong results last weekend during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.

Sides posted a seventh-place finish on Friday during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series opener before capping the doubleheader at Cedar Lake Speedway with a fifth-place result on Saturday.

"It was a good end to the weekend, especially charging from the back on Saturday the way we did," he said. "Any time you can run in the top five it's a good night."

The weekend began on Thursday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., where the World of Outlaws finished an event that was postponed a week because of rain.

"We restarted 13th and we weren't bad," he said. "We ran about eight or 10 laps and somebody started to spin in front of (Brad) Sweet. He got sideways and hit that person. That collected me and then Jason Johnson hit me. It smashed the header flat and knocked the left front tire off and damaged the wings. There wasn't enough time in the work area to get it all fixed so we weren't able to restart."

Sides was credited with a 15th-place finish.

He ventured to Cedar Lake Speedway on Friday, when he qualified fourth quickest before winning a heat race. The dash inversion was a No. 4 to put him on the pole.

"The track got so slick," he said. "The outside was way better and I was on the pole. When we got going I tried hitting the bottom and two or three drivers went by. I tried the bottom the next corner and a couple more got by. I finally got in line and rode around the top."

Sides placed sixth in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

"I fell back to around ninth on a restart," he said. "I got back by one of them and I was behind Johnson when he got in the wall so that gave us another spot. I think we were up to fifth late in the race when we had a restart and Greg Wilson motored by on the bottom followed by Ian Madsen. It must have been laying some rubber on the bottom."

Sides placed seventh.

He wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at the high-banked track, where he timed in 28th quickest after going out late in the order. Sides rallied from seventh to fourth in a heat race to lock into the 16 th starting position in the main event.

"A lap or two in someone in front of us started to spin," he said. "I went to the infield to keep from hitting them and spun so I went to the rear. I came back through there straddling the tires in the wet stuff."

Sides overcame the early incident as he rallied from the back of the field to a fifth-place finish.

"It was good because it showed we can drive through there and have the speed to do it," he said. "That was a great way to end the weekend."

Sides is slated to compete this Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic and Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Rallies for Top Five at Dakota State Fair Speedway With World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - HURON, S.D. (July 5, 2017) - Jason Sides capped last weekend by earning his seventh top 10 of the season as he climbed to eighth in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series championship standings.

The night began on Sunday at Dakota State Fair Speedway, where the left front radius rod came off during qualifying. That ended with Sides timing in 19th quickest overall, which lined him up seventh in a heat race.

"We got by a car and then Sheldon (Haudenschild) had a flat tire so we got to fifth," he said. "We went back green and then Kraig (Kinser) had a flat. I passed someone for third and I was gaining on Logan (Schuchart), but ran out of time to get him to make the dash."

Sides rallied from seventh to third place in the heat race, which was one position shy of making the dash. It started him seventh in the main event.

"We went from seventh to sixth in the first lap," he said. "Then I got too low and out of the racing groove and I fell back to ninth. We got going and passed a couple back. I got by Jason Johnson and then he had a flat. I got by (Daryn) Pittman and then (Brad) Sweet. I got up to third. We had a red flag and when we went back green they threw the green and white together because of the track conditions. Tim Kaeding got a run on me coming for the green. He was more in the rubber and he got away from me in turns one and two. After Donny (Schatz) took the lead I was going to get by Shane (Stewart), but when Tim got to the outside of him he turned down so we ended up fourth."

The fourth-place finish was a strong end to the weekend for Sides, who opened the action on Thursday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Run, Minn., by qualifying 27th quickest. He advanced from 10th to seventh place in a heat race, which relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. Sides maneuvered from 10th to fourth place in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the A Main.

"We started 22nd and were up to around 15th when the rain came about three laps in," he said. "They are going to run the remainder of the race this Thursday."

Sides then made a visit to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., on Friday. He qualified second quickest, but finished where he started - sixth - in a heat race. That missed making the feature inversion by two positions and lined him up 17th in the main event.

"The track was heavy and one lane so it was really tough to pass," he said. "They told me after that it hadn't been that heavy all year so it was just bad luck for us."

Sides ended the night 15th.

Following Thursday's show at Deer Creek Speedway, Sides will then race on Friday and Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Earns Top Five in Return to The Dirt Oval at Route 66

Inside Line Promotions - JOLIET, Ill. (June 28, 2017) - Jason Sides scored a top-five result on Tuesday during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series first race at The Dirt Oval at Route 66 in a dozen years.

Sides kicked off the FVP Outlaw Clay Classic by qualifying fifth quickest. He then won both a heat race and the dash after starting on the outside of the front row. That gave him the pole position for the 30-lap main event.

"We led the first few laps, but we weren't able to hold the bottom lane as well as some other drivers," he said. "You never want to give away a chance at a win when you start on the pole, but our car wasn't quite as good as a couple other drivers."

Sides capped the night with a fifth-place result, which was his sixth top five of the season.

Last weekend's action began on Friday when Sides made his debut at West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa. He qualified 16th quickest and picked up a position to finish fifth in a heat race. He then gained a spot in the World of Outlaws main event to end 12th.

"The sun was bright and it was windy so the track dried out," he said. "They didn't have the equipment to work the track. It was a different kind of track. It wasn't terrible, but could have used some work. It was like a big train race of following each other."

Sides ventured to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., on Saturday. He set quick time in his group and won a World of Outlaws heat race to lock into the dash. Unfortunately, the No. 8 was pulled during the dash inversion so he started on the outside of the fourth row.

"The night started out a lot better," he said. "We were quick time in our set and we won our heat. Then I drew the eight for the dash. After a rain delay the track got wetter and wetter and we didn't free up enough. We were over on the right front so much. The car was so tight. We should have crashed two or three times. Late in the race I decided to pull in to save it. We just couldn't get it to rotate around the corners."

Sides placed seventh in the dash, but faded throughout the main event because of the ill-handling race car. He exited the race early with a 17 th-place finish in an effort to avoid being involved in a crash.

Sides will return to action this Thursday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the Clash at the Creek before competing at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D., on Saturday with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Garners Career-Best Result at Granite City Speedway With World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (June 21, 2017) - Jason Sides produced his career-best result at Granite City Speedway on Tuesday evening with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Sides opened the event by qualifying second quickest. He then placed second in a heat race to lock into the dash.

"It was a pretty good start to the night," he said. "The dash wasn't all that. We tried some stuff in the dash and we weren't that great so we changed it back for the feature."

Sides placed sixth in the dash after starting on the inside of the third row. That lined him up sixth in the main event, in which he battled for a top five before posting a seventh-place result. It was his second straight top 10 at the track.

"We stayed on the bottom too long," he said. "Once some of that fuel came off I went to the top and we weren't bad at all."

Sides also competed last Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., where he timed in ninth quickest in his group before finishing where he started - fifth - in a heat race. That locked him into the 18 th starting position in the main event.

"We had a long rain delay early in the feature and the track was locked down when we resumed," he said. "It was heavy and fast. There wasn't much passing. There were some wrecks and we gained some spots that way."

Sides advanced from 18th to an 11th-place finish.

Last Saturday's race at Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, N.D., was postponed to August because of inclement weather.

Sides is slated to make his debut at West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa, this Friday before venturing to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., on Saturday with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Heading to North Dakota Tracks After Tough Week in the Midwest

Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (June 15, 2017) – Jason Sides is North Dakota bound for a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader this weekend.

Sides and the Outlaws will compete on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks before heading to Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo on Saturday.

He enters this weekend having earned at least one top-10 finish during eight of the last nine seasons at River Cities Speedway, where he recorded a career-best runner-up result in 2011. He is also riding a four-race top-10 streak with the World of Outlaws at Red River Valley Speedway, where he last competed in 2012.

“I always enjoy the tracks in North Dakota,” he said. “We’ve had a good amount of success at both tracks. River Cities is a place that is high banked and small. We usually go there twice a year so we have a lot of laps there. Red River is a little bigger, but we’ve only been there a handful of times in the last decade.”

Sides is hopeful the top-10 trends at the two tracks will continue this weekend after a frustrating week in the Midwest. Sides placed 20 th and 21st, respectively, last Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, before he netted a 17th -place result on Tuesday at Eagle Raceway.

“We didn’t qualify well any of the three nights during the last week and that always makes it a struggle for the rest of the night,” he said. “We need to put down a good qualifying lap each time out this weekend to set ourselves up for success.”

Sides Nets Pair of Top 10s During AGCO Jackson Nationals Preliminary Nights

Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 5, 2017) - Jason Sides put together two strong preliminary nights before a tire problem hampered him during the finale of the 39th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals last weekend at Jackson Motorplex.

Sides opened the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader on Thursday by qualifying second quickest in his group. He then won a heat race to lock into the dash. A fourth-place result in the dash lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

"I ran fifth a long time," he said. "I was behind Danny Lasoski and he was blowing some oil. My tires were bald and I slid over the curb and a couple of guys got by me. On a late restart I got back by one to end up seventh."

Sides placed seventh, which marked his 13th top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws.

Night 2 of the event featured similar success for Sides, who qualified eighth quickest before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to lock into the dash. A seventh-place finish in the dash started Sides seventh in the A Main.

"I knew going into the feature we needed to move forward to earn one of the four lock-in positions to Saturday's dash," he said. "We were able to advance a couple of positions, but I knew it'd be close between us and Gravel."

Sides maneuvered to a fifth-place result, which was his fifth top five of the season and earned enough points to rank Sides fourth in overall event points out of 40 competitors. That guaranteed him a spot in Saturday's dash, in which he finished where he started - fourth.

That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the $25,000-to-win main event.

"I got up to third early and was running the top at both ends of the track," he said. "The car wanted to turn before I wanted to turn so I went to the bottom and it was even worse."

Sides lost a couple of positions prior to a mid-race restart, which is when he struggled the most as the car became tough to handle.

"I couldn't get going because I was on the left rear wanting to spin out," he said. "It turns out we grew two and a quarter inches in stagger. Twelve was more than I wanted to run, but since the track was wet and we had a good bottom I figured we'd be ok. The left rear tire shrank and the right rear grew and we came in with more than 14 inches of stagger. I just chalk it up to bad luck because I'm not sure what to do different."

Sides faded during the second half of the race to a 14th-place result.

He will return to action with the World of Outlaws this Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

Sides Sets Sights on $25,000 Prize During AGCO Jackson Nationals This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 31, 2017) - Jason Sides is excited to head to Jackson Motorplex this weekend for the three-day, 39 th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

Sides scored an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions win at the half-mile oval in Jackson, Minn., in 2012 and he produced his career-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result of seventh the following season.

"I've been pretty decent there," he said. "It seems like I tend to run better on the bigger tracks. I'm looking forward to this weekend."

Sides and the World of Outlaws will compete at the track Thursday through Saturday with the finale paying $25,000 to win.

Sides is coming off a busy week of traveling with the World of Outlaws beginning last Wednesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., for the Jersey Outlaw Classic.

"It started out decent," he said. "We qualified fifth quick and we were leading the heat race and then we broke a u-joint. So that puts us in the Last Chance Showdown. We scrambled to get it fixed for the LCS, which we won. I passed a few cars to start the main event. On one of the restarts I got three or four more cars. I was on the inside and when I lifted the car sat down hard and hit the infield guard rail. When it did it spun around and turned over."

Sides had rallied from the heat race problem and was in contention for a top 10 during the main event when the incident occurred. He restarted at the back and ended with an 18th-place result.

He then ventured to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., last Friday for the Outlaw Showdown.

"The track was slick from the get-go," he said. "It was blowing dust before we took a green flag lap. We didn't qualify very well and finished where we started in the heat race. For the A Main they pushed the tires in on the bottom, but it was real dirty and crumbly. It was loose the first 10 or 15 laps and then the track got really clean."

Sides timed in 18th quickest, placed sixth in a heat race and finished 19th in the main event.

The week wrapped up on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Sides qualified 24th quickest. An eighth-place finish in a heat race and third-place result in the Last Chance Showdown preceded Sides' 19 th-place outing in the A Main.

Sides Places 15th at Williams Grove Speedway During Morgan Cup

Inside Line Promotions - WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 22, 2017) - Jason Sides set himself up for success last weekend throughout a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader in Central Pennsylvania.

Sides qualified well each night and he made all three main events. Unfortunately, his feature finishes didn't end as well.

"We just didn't capitalize," he said. "The goal was to get in the show and of course when you're starting mid-pack you want to at least stay there if I'm being realistic."

The action began last Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., where Sides qualified seventh quickest before advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the Gettysburg Clash main event.

"We ran the bottom too long," he said. "Everyone went to the top and I got slid a couple of times. I moved back to the bottom where I felt I had a shot at it and then they started going around me on the top. It's hard to go there once a year and feel like it's competitive."

Sides was battling around 15th when another competitor spun him out in the closing laps. He finished with a 24th-place result.

Circumstances were similar on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where Sides timed in 11th quickest in his group, placed sixth in a heat race and ended fourth in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the main event. He gained several positions before being turned around with only a few laps remaining.

"I felt pretty good and then late in the race someone got into the back of me," he said. "I hit the inside wall and it tore up some stuff."

Sides was credited with a 21st-place finish.

He returned to the famed half-mile oval on Saturday for the Morgan Cup, which began with Sides qualifying third quickest overall. He then won a heat race to make the dash. A sixth-place result lined Sides up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

"We were really good while we were racing, but the cautions didn't go my way," he said. "I'd lose a spot or two on the restarts. Once we got going we were fine. We wore the tires out and didn't have any grip on the restarts. If it would have stayed green longer we'd have finished better."

Sides raced in the top six for most of the race before two late restarts cost him several positions as he ended 15th.

"I couldn't hold the bottom anymore," he said. "I was hanging on that last five or 10 laps."

Sunday's Empire State Challenge at Weedsport Speedway was rained out following qualifying. It has been rescheduled for Oct. 15.

Sides is scheduled to compete this Tuesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., for the Jersey Outlaw Classic and Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Nets Seventh-Place Finish at Eldora During World of Outlaws Tripleheader Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 16, 2017) - Jason Sides highlighted last weekend with a top-10 finish at Eldora Speedway during a tripleheader with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

The three-race weekend began on Friday at the half-mile oval near Rossburg, Ohio, where Sides set quick time during qualifying. He then placed second in a heat race to lock into the dash, in which he advanced from fourth to second place to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"We started out all right," he said. "We were on the outside on a few restarts and that didn't help us. I wish we were a little tighter from the get-go. Toward the end the bottom groove did go away some and a couple drivers started running higher and we were struggling to get grip on the bottom."

Sides held on for a seventh-place finish, which marked his 11th top 10 in 12 races.

"It was a good night, but there's always room for improvements," he said. "If we could go back and do it again I know what I'd do to change things to make it better."

Eldora Speedway hosted another show on Saturday, when Sides timed in 23 rd quickest. He then ended seventh in a heat race and third in the Last Chance Showdown before maneuvering from 21st to 17 th in the main event.

"We tightened up more and were pretty good in the feature," he said. "A sign board came off another driver's top wing and knocked our nose wing down. We had to make a few pit stops. Thanks to everyone for helping us on that. I think we would have had a possible top 10 if that issue wouldn't have occurred."

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway, where Sides qualified 28th quickest after going out late. He advanced from seventh to fifth place in a heat race to lock into the main event, in which he drove from 20th to a 17th-place finish.

"It was an early start and the sun dried out the track in turns three and four pretty quickly," he said. "The racing groove got way up against the wall with a big curb in qualifying and we went out late. I was by myself and didn't want to tear stuff up. It was basic survival all night. We wanted to make it out in one piece, which we did."

Sides has a busy week on tap as he is slated to compete on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash; on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup; and on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., for the Empire State Challenge with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Starting New Top-10 Streak After Nine-Race Streak Snapped in Sedalia

Inside Line Promotions - PARK CITY, Kan. (May 8, 2017) - Jason Sides is starting a new streak after his nine-race top-10 streak was snapped last Friday because of a flat tire.

Sides entered the Sedalia Show-Me Showdown on Friday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., riding his best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series streak since capturing nine top 10s in a row in August and September of 2010.

He began the night qualifying third quickest overall before he placed third in a heat race after starting on the pole.

"My start in the heat race didn't go as planned," he said. "Joey (Saldana) was inching forward so I slowed down to make him slow down to get even. They had watered the track after the modified heats. On my start I got down too low and there was still some sloppiness. We spun the tires and didn't get a good start."

The result missed a lock-in position to the dash and lined Sides up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

"We were really good early in the feature," he said. "It seemed like when the racing line moved to the top it was dragging the left rear a lot getting into turns one and three. I think it smashed the air out of the left rear tire. It came in low and was completely chunked out all the way around the outside and inside of the left rear. It got really loose the last 10 or so laps."

Sides was contending just outside the top five midway through the main event before he faded to a 13th-place result.

While the top-10 streak stopped at nine, Sides started another one on Saturday at 81 Speedway during the Kansas Outlaw Klassic. He qualified second quickest and won a heat race to make the dash. A sixth-place result in the dash lined Sides up on the outside of the third row in the main event.

"We started decent, but fell back late in the race," he said. "We were a little tight in the dash so we put it back to how we've been having it and that was too much. We should have split the difference."

Sides ended ninth, which marked his 12th top 10 of the season and his 10th in the last 11 races.

The Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz scheduled for last Wednesday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., was postponed to October.

Sides will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws.

QUICK RESULTS -

Sides Nearly Scores First World of Outlaws Win of Season, Extends Top-10 Streak to Nine Straight

Inside Line Promotions - PLYMOUTH, Ind. (May 1, 2017) - Jason Sides was two laps away from winning his first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event of the season last Friday at Plymouth Speedway.

Sides led 28 laps of the 35-lap main event, but he was passed with two laps remaining during his second career appearance at the bullring. He settled for a runner-up result, which marked his best result of the season and his ninth consecutive top-10 finish with the World of Outlaws.

"To lead that many laps and have it taken away in the last two laps stings a little," he said. "The next time we get in that position hopefully we can get it done."

Sides said he was in a rush all day.

"We dropped a car off that we wrecked at Volusia Speedway Park in February at Maxim Friday morning not realizing how far it was from the track," he said. "We didn't pull into the race track until 5:15 p.m. It was a rush all night. The motor we had in there had a few issues with a water fitting. It was blowing back on the motor and through the dash. They blew the horn for the dash and we didn't have the fitting in it yet. With that being said it was a rushed night and we really never changed much at all."

Sides qualified fifth quickest overall before he won both a heat race and the dash after starting on the outside of the front row. That lined him up on the pole for the main event.

Sides quickly took the lead and held the top spot for the first nine laps before losing the lead in traffic to Donny Schatz. However, Sides regained the point on a restart on Lap 16 and he maintained an advantage until heavy traffic in the closing laps allowed David Gravel to take over the lead on Lap 34.

"That late in the race, in traffic and everything starting to slow down, we're trying not to run up on a lapped car that quick," Sides said. "Gravel could see that and he made the most of it. I've won them like that in his position a few times. It's heartbreaking."

The second-place finish was his second podium result and fourth top five this season. He now has a nine-race top-10 streak, which is his best streak since capturing nine top 10s in a row in August and September of 2010.

The next streak is 12 straight top 10s, which occurred in June and July of 2009.

Saturday's event at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., was postponed to May 14 because of rain.

Sides is slated to compete this Wednesday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz; on Friday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., for the Sedalia Show-Me Showdown; and on Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Kansas Outlaw Klassic with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Heading to Indiana for World of Outlaws Doubleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (April 24, 2017) - Jason Sides is fresh following a weekend at home thanks to Mother Nature wreaking havoc on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last weekend.

Sides took advantage of the free time after the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz was postponed at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., and the Spring Classic was cancelled at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.

"It's been nice to be home," he said. "We get to be home next week, too. We got some things done that needed to be done on the truck and other things that you need to do at home that you can't while you're on the road."

Sides will return to action this Friday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., with the World of Outlaws.

He placed 13th last season during his debut at Plymouth Speedway. Sides has more experience at Tri-State Speedway, where he has raced each of the last 10 years. He has a career-best result of third in 2009 and has posted five top 10s during his last eight races at the quarter-mile oval.

"We've had good runs there and we've had some bad runs there," he said. "It's kind of a crapshoot. You have to qualify well. You need to be up front to be a contender because you probably won't charge from the back."

Sides enters this weekend with a top-10 streak at eight consecutive races, which is his best stretch since recording nine straight in August and September of 2010.

"I think we're headed in the right direction," he said. "We've made some small changes and it's gotten a lot better. I think we have a pretty good handle on it. We just need to keep running in the top three to get that first win of the season."

Sides Takes Three Top 10s in Texas to Keep Top-10 Streak Rolling

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (April 17, 2017) - Jason Sides is racing as well as he has in several years.

Sides recorded a trio of top 10s last weekend in Texas to give him eight consecutive top-10 finishes, which is his best stretch since earning nine straight top 10s in August and September of 2010.

"It's definitely picked up," he said. "It's been getting better and I'm not sure what to change. A key part is having the confidence to keep doing what you're doing and not change anything when everything is right."

Last weekend's action began on Thursday at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, for the Gator Bash.

"I'd never been to Willis," he said. "The track was kind of small and they had it kind of wet. It had a top and a bottom so to qualify you could run in anywhere and have grip. I did spin the tires a little down the back straightaway because it had a little red sand in it."

Sides qualified fourth quickest overall, which started him on the outside of the front row for a heat race. He finished second in the heat race to lock into the dash, where he advanced from third to win.

"The inside took off and I got by Paul McMahan for second," he said. "There was some good stuff off the bottom and I got by Kasey (Kahne) to win the dash.

"We started out pretty decent and led a few laps in the feature. We got into traffic and I started moving around. I went a little wide and started running the top in turns three and four. McMahan got by. Me and Kasey were back and forth for second. (David) Gravel got around the both of us at the same time. The track was really slick off turn four. We made a few changes on a late red flag and got it better. We got back by McMahan on the restart, but he got back underneath us."

Sides led the first 13 laps of the 40-lap race before he ended third, which marked his first podium finish of the season and his third consecutive top-five result.

The team then ventured to Devil's Bowl Speedway for the Texas Outlaw Nationals, which began on Friday. Sides qualified second quickest, won a heat race and placed second in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"I was hoping we'd get to traffic because Jason (Johnson) was really good in clean air," he said. "I was really wanting to get to traffic. About the time we did that we'd have a caution and then it'd get strung out again. (Brad) Sweet was really good on the bottom. We had gear in it to run the top. When we'd try to run the bottom we'd slide across the bottom and Sweet went underneath us once when that happened.

"Later in the race Logan (Schuchart) got underneath us off turn four and we were going to run fourth. I saw the flags and ran into turn one and let out of the gas thinking the race was over. I guess it was the white flag and not the checkered flag. I purely messed up. That was the one and only time it's happened and it will never happen again."

Sides crossed the finish line in eighth after letting up on the finale lap thinking the race was over.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at the half-mile oval, where Sides set quick time before he ended third in a heat race. That started him on the inside of the fourth row in the main event.

"We were still a little tight," he said. "We had a lot more gear to run the bottom. We raced with (Brent) Marks and Johnson late in the race and ended up finishing around where we started. It was one of those races where if you had track position you could be good up front."

Sides placed eighth for the second straight night.

He is slated to return to action this Friday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for the Spring Classic with the World of Outlaws.

Sides, who had earned three consecutive top 10s to close the series' visit to California the previous week, recorded a fourth-place finish on Friday at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz., during the Yuma Valley Showdown and a fifth-place result on Saturday at Arizona Speedway during the Arizona Desert Shootout.

"It's all coming together now," he said. "The biggest thing is getting qualified and then that puts you in position to have a better night, to get in the dash and at least start in the first three or four rows of the A Main. Qualifying better in turn leads to better results all around."

Sides qualified third quickest during his debut at Cocopah Speedway to open Friday's event.

"I watched a few races while we were in Australia last year on the internet," he said. "It looked a lot different than what the computer shows. I tried to compare it to something else. We sized it up like a track we'd been at and it worked out well.

"We went out early and made a decent lap in qualifying. By the time the heat races came around the only place you could race was around the top. The bottom off turn four was pretty decent. I jumped up in front of Brian Brown to take the line to run the top in turns one and two. I led the whole race. That was the key to it, getting the jump on the start."

Sides won a heat race to lock into the dash, in which he advanced from fourth to second place to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"Where I thought you needed to run the top in turns one and two, a couple of cars hit the bottom and it was laying rubber as well," he said. "I didn't realize that until four or five laps into it. I ran third for the longest time until a late caution. My right rear tire was really low and almost bald. On the restart I got into turn one and on the right rear pretty hard. When it did it shot out toward the wall and that's when (Brad) Sweet got by."

Sides ended with a season-best fourth-place finish.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Arizona Speedway, where Sides timed in third quickest during qualifying before winning a heat race for the second straight night. He then ended fifth in the dash to start the feature on the inside of the third row.

"On the start going into the corner everyone was running to the top," he said. "I went to the bottom and got past Joey (Saldana) and Jason Johnson for third. I immediately got in line and ran third for the longest time. It started laying rubber to that curb. It was slick getting in the corners with rubber getting off. I was cheating it too much in turns three and four. That kind of track is for the younger guys who have nothing to lose and bang it off the curb and that isn't me so a couple of guys got by toward the end."

Sides held on for a fifth-place result.

He is slated to return to action with the World of Outlaws this Thursday at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, for the Gator Bash and Friday and Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Texas Outlaw Nationals.

Sides Wins World of Outlaws Heat Race and Dash Before Bad Luck Strikes at Stockton

Inside Line Promotions - STOCKTON, Calif. (March 28, 2017) - If anyone in California has a monkey cage, please bring it to the Jason Sides pit area at the next World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race.

Sides, who has had a monkey on his back throughout the first month of the season, seemed to have his fortune turn around last Saturday during the FVP Western Spring Shootout at Stockton Dirt Track.

He qualified second quickest in his group before winning both a heat race - his third of the year with the series - and the dash to line up on the pole for the main event.

"After the dash we had a little oil on the floor board," he said. "We reached in there and snugged the power steering line. When you do that and don't hold the line it will move the hose. I tightened it and when I did it turned the hose to the steering box mount. I think that rubbed a hole in it. I made it a lap and a half. It rubbed right through and blew all the oil out."

Sides took the lead on the start of the main event and he completed the first lap before a caution came out.

"On that restart Brad (Sweet) got by in turns one and two," he said. "By that time I was trying to hang on to it. I had no steering. After about three laps it was going where it wanted to and I was being passed so I decided to pull in."

Sides was unable to finish the race after all the power steering fluid had drained, which cost a shot at his first win of the season and relegated him to a 24th-place finish.

"It was a good night going, but we just didn't get the results," he said. "Hopefully the speed and everything but the bad luck will continue the next few races."

Sides has a tripleheader on deck this week with World of Outlaws events on Wednesday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., for the Brad Sweet Placerville Short Track Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts; on Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., for the Kings Outlaw Shootout; and on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., for the SoCal Showdown.

Sides finished a career-best third at Placerville Speedway in 2015. He has placed 12th at Keller Auto Speedway during his two most recent visits and he has a top-10 finish at Perris Auto Speedway each of the last two seasons.
