Sides Heading to Indiana for World of Outlaws Doubleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (April 24, 2017) - Jason Sides is fresh following a weekend at home thanks to Mother Nature wreaking havoc on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last weekend.

Sides took advantage of the free time after the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz was postponed at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., and the Spring Classic was cancelled at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.

"It's been nice to be home," he said. "We get to be home next week, too. We got some things done that needed to be done on the truck and other things that you need to do at home that you can't while you're on the road."

Sides will return to action this Friday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., with the World of Outlaws.

He placed 13th last season during his debut at Plymouth Speedway. Sides has more experience at Tri-State Speedway, where he has raced each of the last 10 years. He has a career-best result of third in 2009 and has posted five top 10s during his last eight races at the quarter-mile oval.

"We've had good runs there and we've had some bad runs there," he said. "It's kind of a crapshoot. You have to qualify well. You need to be up front to be a contender because you probably won't charge from the back."

Sides enters this weekend with a top-10 streak at eight consecutive races, which is his best stretch since recording nine straight in August and September of 2010.

"I think we're headed in the right direction," he said. "We've made some small changes and it's gotten a lot better. I think we have a pretty good handle on it. We just need to keep running in the top three to get that first win of the season."

Sides Takes Three Top 10s in Texas to Keep Top-10 Streak Rolling

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (April 17, 2017) - Jason Sides is racing as well as he has in several years.

Sides recorded a trio of top 10s last weekend in Texas to give him eight consecutive top-10 finishes, which is his best stretch since earning nine straight top 10s in August and September of 2010.

"It's definitely picked up," he said. "It's been getting better and I'm not sure what to change. A key part is having the confidence to keep doing what you're doing and not change anything when everything is right."

Last weekend's action began on Thursday at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, for the Gator Bash.

"I'd never been to Willis," he said. "The track was kind of small and they had it kind of wet. It had a top and a bottom so to qualify you could run in anywhere and have grip. I did spin the tires a little down the back straightaway because it had a little red sand in it."

Sides qualified fourth quickest overall, which started him on the outside of the front row for a heat race. He finished second in the heat race to lock into the dash, where he advanced from third to win.

"The inside took off and I got by Paul McMahan for second," he said. "There was some good stuff off the bottom and I got by Kasey (Kahne) to win the dash.

"We started out pretty decent and led a few laps in the feature. We got into traffic and I started moving around. I went a little wide and started running the top in turns three and four. McMahan got by. Me and Kasey were back and forth for second. (David) Gravel got around the both of us at the same time. The track was really slick off turn four. We made a few changes on a late red flag and got it better. We got back by McMahan on the restart, but he got back underneath us."

Sides led the first 13 laps of the 40-lap race before he ended third, which marked his first podium finish of the season and his third consecutive top-five result.

The team then ventured to Devil's Bowl Speedway for the Texas Outlaw Nationals, which began on Friday. Sides qualified second quickest, won a heat race and placed second in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"I was hoping we'd get to traffic because Jason (Johnson) was really good in clean air," he said. "I was really wanting to get to traffic. About the time we did that we'd have a caution and then it'd get strung out again. (Brad) Sweet was really good on the bottom. We had gear in it to run the top. When we'd try to run the bottom we'd slide across the bottom and Sweet went underneath us once when that happened.

"Later in the race Logan (Schuchart) got underneath us off turn four and we were going to run fourth. I saw the flags and ran into turn one and let out of the gas thinking the race was over. I guess it was the white flag and not the checkered flag. I purely messed up. That was the one and only time it's happened and it will never happen again."

Sides crossed the finish line in eighth after letting up on the finale lap thinking the race was over.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at the half-mile oval, where Sides set quick time before he ended third in a heat race. That started him on the inside of the fourth row in the main event.

"We were still a little tight," he said. "We had a lot more gear to run the bottom. We raced with (Brent) Marks and Johnson late in the race and ended up finishing around where we started. It was one of those races where if you had track position you could be good up front."

Sides placed eighth for the second straight night.

He is slated to return to action this Friday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., for the Spring Classic with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Strong in the Desert to Capture Two Top Fives With World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (April 10, 2017) - Jason Sides scored his first two top-five finishes of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season last weekend during a doubleheader in the desert.

Sides, who had earned three consecutive top 10s to close the series' visit to California the previous week, recorded a fourth-place finish on Friday at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz., during the Yuma Valley Showdown and a fifth-place result on Saturday at Arizona Speedway during the Arizona Desert Shootout.

"It's all coming together now," he said. "The biggest thing is getting qualified and then that puts you in position to have a better night, to get in the dash and at least start in the first three or four rows of the A Main. Qualifying better in turn leads to better results all around."

Sides qualified third quickest during his debut at Cocopah Speedway to open Friday's event.

"I watched a few races while we were in Australia last year on the internet," he said. "It looked a lot different than what the computer shows. I tried to compare it to something else. We sized it up like a track we'd been at and it worked out well.

"We went out early and made a decent lap in qualifying. By the time the heat races came around the only place you could race was around the top. The bottom off turn four was pretty decent. I jumped up in front of Brian Brown to take the line to run the top in turns one and two. I led the whole race. That was the key to it, getting the jump on the start."

Sides won a heat race to lock into the dash, in which he advanced from fourth to second place to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"Where I thought you needed to run the top in turns one and two, a couple of cars hit the bottom and it was laying rubber as well," he said. "I didn't realize that until four or five laps into it. I ran third for the longest time until a late caution. My right rear tire was really low and almost bald. On the restart I got into turn one and on the right rear pretty hard. When it did it shot out toward the wall and that's when (Brad) Sweet got by."

Sides ended with a season-best fourth-place finish.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Arizona Speedway, where Sides timed in third quickest during qualifying before winning a heat race for the second straight night. He then ended fifth in the dash to start the feature on the inside of the third row.

"On the start going into the corner everyone was running to the top," he said. "I went to the bottom and got past Joey (Saldana) and Jason Johnson for third. I immediately got in line and ran third for the longest time. It started laying rubber to that curb. It was slick getting in the corners with rubber getting off. I was cheating it too much in turns three and four. That kind of track is for the younger guys who have nothing to lose and bang it off the curb and that isn't me so a couple of guys got by toward the end."

Sides held on for a fifth-place result.

He is slated to return to action with the World of Outlaws this Thursday at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, for the Gator Bash and Friday and Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Texas Outlaw Nationals.

Sides Wins World of Outlaws Heat Race and Dash Before Bad Luck Strikes at Stockton

Inside Line Promotions - STOCKTON, Calif. (March 28, 2017) - If anyone in California has a monkey cage, please bring it to the Jason Sides pit area at the next World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race.

Sides, who has had a monkey on his back throughout the first month of the season, seemed to have his fortune turn around last Saturday during the FVP Western Spring Shootout at Stockton Dirt Track.

He qualified second quickest in his group before winning both a heat race - his third of the year with the series - and the dash to line up on the pole for the main event.

"After the dash we had a little oil on the floor board," he said. "We reached in there and snugged the power steering line. When you do that and don't hold the line it will move the hose. I tightened it and when I did it turned the hose to the steering box mount. I think that rubbed a hole in it. I made it a lap and a half. It rubbed right through and blew all the oil out."

Sides took the lead on the start of the main event and he completed the first lap before a caution came out.

"On that restart Brad (Sweet) got by in turns one and two," he said. "By that time I was trying to hang on to it. I had no steering. After about three laps it was going where it wanted to and I was being passed so I decided to pull in."

Sides was unable to finish the race after all the power steering fluid had drained, which cost a shot at his first win of the season and relegated him to a 24th-place finish.

"It was a good night going, but we just didn't get the results," he said. "Hopefully the speed and everything but the bad luck will continue the next few races."

Sides has a tripleheader on deck this week with World of Outlaws events on Wednesday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., for the Brad Sweet Placerville Short Track Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts; on Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., for the Kings Outlaw Shootout; and on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., for the SoCal Showdown.

Sides finished a career-best third at Placerville Speedway in 2015. He has placed 12th at Keller Auto Speedway during his two most recent visits and he has a top-10 finish at Perris Auto Speedway each of the last two seasons.

QUICK RESULTS -

March 25 - Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif. - Qualifying: 2; Heat race: 1 (1); Dash: 1 (1); Feature: 24 (1).
