Sides Delivers Top-10 Result During AGCO Jackson Nationals Finale
Inside Line Promotions - JACKSON, Minn. (June 12, 2018) - Jason Sides posted a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend during the 40th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals, including a ninth-place outing on Saturday when the finale paid a whopping $40,000 to win.
"From the last three or four weeks I'm tickled just to get some races in without getting rained out," he said. "I applaud Tod Quiring for putting on a race like that with a purse like that. It was a great purse for everybody. There needs to be more races like that."
The opening night of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader was rained out on Thursday. Sides kicked off Friday's action by qualifying second quickest in his group. A runner-up result in a heat race earned a spot into the dash. Sides placed fourth in the dash to line up on the outside of the second row for the A Main.
"It was hard to pass," he said. "Therefore, qualifying was the key there. We were in a good position all night. We got going and I was getting to my line on the bottom. Another driver had gone to the top and he turned to come across. I had to check up and when I did that I got tight and went over the cushion. Brian Brown and David Gravel got by. That was about halfway through that race. I learned to lag back on restarts so you keep some air on the wing so you won't get tight."
Sides placed seventh during the first round.
He returned to the track on Saturday afternoon for the show that was postponed by rain on Thursday. Sides timed in fourth quickest in his group and placed third in a heat race to line up 11th for the main event.
"On the start it got the track really dirty," he said. "When I was running the top either I was not committed to the curb or there was some rubber up there. About halfway through the race it was like a light switch and I went backwards. When I came in both rear tires were completely bald. You could see the strings coming out. The guys beside me had some tread left. Either I was in the rubber too early or I was grinding them off."
Sides held on for a 19th-place result.
The event concluded that night with Sides winning a heat race and ending eighth in the dash to garner the eighth starting position for the 40-lap feature.
"We lost a spot on the start," he said. "Then one guy jumped across and spun and almost hit me. I gained a spot there. On the slide jobs going into turn one you had to be careful not to open it too much and let someone get underneath you."
Sides battled inside the top 10 throughout the race before ending ninth.
Last week's action began on Tuesday at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Ill., for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. Sides qualified 24 th overall, rallied from eighth to fifth in a heat race and capped the night with an 18th-place run.
"Fairbury was kind of different," he said. "They had the track really wet and we weren't very good. I've been too tight lately on the smaller tracks. I can't get myself freed up enough to get around the track. By the time I do it's too late."
Sides will head to North Dakota for World of Outlaws shows on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks for the Northern Tour and Sunday at Nodak Speedway in Minot for the Magic City Showdown.

Sides Excited for AGCO Jackson Nationals This Week at Jackson Motorplex
Inside Line Promotions - WILMOT, Wis. (June 4, 2018) - Jason Sides has had this week circled on the calendar since the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series schedule was released.
Sides and the Outlaws will invade Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., Thursday through Saturday for the 40th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals. The finale pays $40,000 to win and $3,000 to start, making it one of the biggest payouts of the season.
"I'm looking forward to Jackson," he said. "I like the facility and the race track. I think Tod (Quiring) does a great job promoting it and trying to make this event bigger and bigger. We need more guys like that."
Sides placed seventh and fifth, respectively, during the two preliminary nights last year. That locked him into the feature during the finale. He ran third early before tire woes relegated him to a 14th-place result.
He was a winner at the track in 2012 during an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event.
This week's action begins on Tuesday at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Ill., during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. It will be the World of Outlaws debut at the track.
Sides and the Outlaws competed twice last weekend. The competition started on Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., during the Rumble in Michigan. He qualified 12th quickest and placed fourth in a heat race, which started him on the outside of the sixth row in the A Main.
"At one point I was up to sixth or seventh," he said. "If you slowed up and hit the bottom it was good. Early on with the full fuel load it would help me stick the bottom. Late in the race we got looser and looser after the fuel burned off. I think the bottom gave up a little later in the race, too. On a couple of restarts we went backwards. We didn't get the result we were looking for after driving up to sixth."
Sides ended with a 12th-place result.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Wilmot Raceway for the Badger 40. Sides timed in 11th quickest. He started fourth in a heat race, but had to take evasive action to avoid a crash and that dropped him to a seventh-place finish. He won the rain-shorted Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the rear of the main event.
"After the rain came the track was wet and sticky," he said. "We freed the car up and it wasn't bad when I was by myself. When you're running behind someone it'd get up on the right front. You run in there so slow on a small track like that. You get in there and if the guy in front of you is going slower you're trying to turn and be on the brakes at the same time and it pushes up on the right front."
Sides advanced to a 15th-place finish.

Sides Ready for World of Outlaws Debut at Fairbury American Legion Speedway
Inside Line Promotions - LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 29, 2018) - Jason Sides is excited to try out a new track this week when the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series makes its debut at Fairbury American Legion Speedway on Wednesday.
The quarter-mile oval will host the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown, which will be the first of three World of Outlaws races this week.
"It's always fun to go to a new track," Sides said. "It's a great way to test yourself and it really levels the playing field for everyone since nobody has any experience there."
Sides will also compete on Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., during the Rumble in Michigan and Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., during the Badger 40. He won a World of Outlaws race at I-96 Speedway in 2011 and holds the track record there.
"We have more experience at I-96 and Wilmot," he said. "I think I-96 has been my most successful track on this week's schedule. It's always an extra confidence boost to go to a track where you've won."
Sides competed in a pair of World of Outlaws races during the last week. He invaded The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the Outlaw Showdown last Friday. Sides qualified eighth quickest and placed fifth in a heat race before ending the night with a 19th-place result in the main event.
"We laid down a good qualifying lap, but went backwards a bit in the heat race and the main event," he said. "The bottom was good for a while in the main, but then it started to go away and the top was the preferred lane. It was really tough to get going back there in traffic the whole race."
Sides competed on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway during the Memorial Day Spectacular presented by KOI Auto Parts. He timed in 28th quickest in qualifying before ending seventh in both a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown.
"It's all about qualifying," he said. "You can't expect to drive up through the field so you have to set yourself up for success with a good qualifying result and we weren't able to do that."

Sides Aiming for Strong Runs in North Carolina and Indiana This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions - BRIDGEPORT, N.J. (May 23, 2018) - Jason Sides is waterlogged after losing four more World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races to wet weather.
A trio of events last week in Pennsylvania and one earlier this week in New Jersey rained out, meaning 15 nights of racing for the Outlaws have been either postponed or cancelled because of rain this season.
The next opportunity to compete is this Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the Outlaw Showdown before traveling to Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind., for Monday's Memorial Day Spectacular presented by KOI Auto Parts.
"We've had some decent runs in Charlotte," he said. "I always enjoy it. Momentum is key there and you have to qualify well because it's so fast and can be tough to pass. It's not that big of a track, but it still races really fast."
Sides earned a career-best runner-up result at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in 2013. He's also placed second at the oval in 2009 and he has five top fives and 15 top 10s there dating back to 2007.
His last top-10 at Lawrenceburg Speedway came in 2012 when Sides rallied from 17th to 10th in the main event.
"We haven't been very good there at all in the past," he said. "We've had a couple of DNFs there and have struggled. That's a track I need to do better at so hopefully we can turn it around on Monday."

Sides Taking on Pennsylvania Posse This Week as World of Outlaws Invade Central Pennsylvania
Inside Line Promotions - HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 15, 2018) - Jason Sides is Pennsylvania bound for a trio of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races if Mother Nature allows.
Sides and the Outlaws will venture to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Wednesday for the Gettysburg Clash before invading Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg for the Morgan Cup. Sides claimed the prestigious Morgan Cup in 2011 and he's placed 10th during the famed National Open each of the last two years at Williams Grove Speedway.
"You know it's going to be a tough week of racing when you head to Central Pennsylvania," he said. "We've had some good runs and the key is getting qualified well, which is essentially the key everywhere. Everyone is so even and tough to pass these days you need to set yourself up for success by starting toward the front."
Sides is coming off a roller coaster weekend, which began last Friday when he hurt an engine during qualifying at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio. He scratched from the remainder of the program.
A fresh engine was what was needed for Saturday when Sides qualified sixth quickest overall before he finished second in a heat race to advance into the dash.
"After the way Friday went we needed to have a solid night on Saturday," he said. "We got timed in well and did what we needed in the heat to make the dash."
Unfortunately, Sides drew the second-highest number during the dash draw to start on the inside of the last row. He finished eighth to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the A Main.
"The bottom was good and the top was good," he said. "It was a pretty racy track. We held our own on the bottom for most of the race."
A late-race restart cost Sides a couple of positions and he was narrowly edge at the line for a top-10 finish.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway, where Sides timed in 16th quickest in his group during qualifying. He ended ninth in a heat race before advancing from 11th to seventh in the Last Chance Showdown, which was only three positions shy of transferring into the main event.

Sides Excited to Return to Eldora Speedway and Tri-State Speedway This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions - SALINA, Okla. (May 8, 2018) - Jason Sides is heading to a track where he's won a pair of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series events during his career.
Sides and the series will compete at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, this Friday and Saturday. Sides scored feature victories at the oval in 2004 and 2009, including capturing the famed Kings Royal during that first win.
"I like racing there," he said. "We've had some good runs. We need to have a good qualifying effort and that is what will set us up for success."
Sides has posted at least one top-10 result at the half-mile oval during three of the last four seasons.
He will wrap up this weekend on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., where Mother Nature has forced the first two attempts to be postponed. He has earned a top-10 finish during three of his last six races at the bullring.
"Hats off to them for trying to get it in," he said. "We had so many rainouts early in the season we need to try to get as many of these races in."
Sides competed twice in the Midwest last weekend with the World of Outlaws. The action began on Friday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., where Sides qualified 11th quickest, placed fifth in a heat race after being involved in a crash and ended 14th in the A Main.
"We weren't too bad in the heat race, but Kraig (Kinser) had a good run and got by Shane (Stewart) and myself going into turns one and two," he said. "It was a little drier in turns three and four and he spun around and collected us. We restarted at the back and got back by another car to make the A Main. Then the feature wasn't bad, but we needed to start further up front."
Sides ventured to Salina Highbanks Speedway on Saturday. He timed in 14 th quickest in qualifying, finished fifth in a heat race and closed the night with a 15th-place run in the main event.
"The track was already getting shiny so we left some used tires on there," he said. "It took rubber around Lap 5 or Lap 6. Once it starts laying rubber you can't really run it much harder because you worry about it blowing out. The used tire made it 28 and ¾ laps before it blew out."
QUICK RESULTS -
May 4 - Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. - Qualifying: 11; Heat race: 5 (4); Feature: 14 (14).

Sides Venturing to Lake Ozark Speedway and Salina Highbanks Speedway This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (April 30, 2018) - Jason Sides is tackling a pair of Midwest races this weekend with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Sides will return to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., on Friday for the first time since 2007 before the weekend wraps up on Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., during the Outlaw Twister Showdown.
"We haven't raced at Lake Ozark for a long time so it should be a fresh slate for everyone," he said. "That will make it an even playing field so we're looking forward to it."
Sides competed at the bullring in 2005 and 2007, when he recorded his best result of 19th. His top finish at Salina Highbanks Speedway was seventh in 2011.
Sides is coming off a busy weekend in Texas, which began on Thursday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige. He qualified 14th quickest, placed eighth in a heat race and finished 11th in the qualifier before ending the main event 14th.
"We weren't very good at Cotton Bowl," he said. "It's a small track with long straightaways and short corners. At the end of the day I wasn't very good. It didn't help that I hit an infield tire so the steering wasn't so great the last half of the race."
The team ventured to Devil's Bowl Speedway on Friday for the first night of the Texas Outlaw Nationals. Sides timed in seventh quickest before he ended fifth in a heat race.
"We were pretty tight in the heat and we lost two positions," he said. "That put us back a little bit for the A Main. I freed up a bit for the feature. About 10 laps in the track started getting shiny and everybody moved to the top. We were too free."
Sides held on for a 16th-place finish.
He wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway, where he qualified ninth quickest, placed third in a heat race and capped the night with a 13th-place result in the A Main.
"The next night they tilled the bottom and we were a little more prepared for the track in the feature," he said. "It was an odd weekend because it was wet most of the night, which you don't get a lot in Texas. We didn't have the best results, but it was good we got three races in."

Sides Scores Best Finish of the Season With World of Outlaws During Spring Classic
Inside Line Promotions - PEVELY, Mo. (April 23, 2018) - Jason Sides recorded his best result of the season on Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 during the Spring Classic.
The night began with Sides setting quick time during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series qualifying for the first time this season. He then won a heat race from the pole position to earn a spot into the dash.
"It started off like it's supposed to," he said. "We had a good run to get qualified. That puts you in a position to win the heat and get in the dash. Then we drew the wrong position in the dash."
Sides pulled the second-highest number - seven - during the dash redraw, which lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the dash. He advanced two positions to place fifth.
Sides ran fifth for the first part of the main event before he passed Donny Schatz for fourth place exiting turn two. Unfortunately, a caution came out before the lap was completed. Soon after restarting the race the track took rubber and passing was at a premium.
"One time I ran in on the guy in front of me and he checked up more than I anticipated, which got me tight," he said. "I pushed out of the rubber and someone got by me for fifth. We ran sixth the rest of the race.
"I wanted a top five, which would be like a win for us right now. We just missed it by one spot. But sixth for the track and everything that happened was good. It was new dirt and they weren't sure what it was going to do. With that many cars it put a toll on it."
The sixth-place result was Sides's best finish of the season and was a step forward after how the weekend began the previous night at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. Sides qualified 21 st quickest before he ended fifth in a heat race to lock into the 17th starting position for the A Main.
"That place got so slick and was up against the wall in qualifying," he said. "I was trying to be a little conservative and we didn't get as good of a qualifying lap as we needed. Qualifying is what sets your night up and is so important. We made it through the heat. Then the feature was pretty good. There was a lot of racing going on."
Sides rallied from 17th to a 12th-place result.

Sides Facing World of Outlaws Tripleheader if Weather Cooperates
Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (April 16, 2018) - Half of the 18 scheduled World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races have been rained out this season, which is the second worst start to a season Jason Sides has witnessed.
"I forget what year it was, but rain cancelled all of the California swing," he said. "We drove out there and went to Phoenix and sat for two weeks. Fortunately my dad was with me and we stopped at some casinos and we hit for a bit so that paid for my two weeks of sitting out there."
The weather this weekend is shaping up nicely as the World of Outlaws has a tripleheader on tap. Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., will host a show on Friday before Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., showcases the Spring Classic on Saturday. Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., wraps up the weekend with a race on Sunday.
"I'm hoping that we have some good runs," he said. "It's tough not racing because you can't get into a rhythm."
Sides placed sixth in April 2009 during his most recent World of Outlaws race at Riverside International Speedway, which is a short drive from where he lives.
"It'll give a lot of our family and friends an opportunity to watch us race," he said. "Being only 15 to 20 minutes from the track will allow the people who have been around us growing up and racing to come out."
Sides recorded a victory at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in 2012 and he posted a runner-up result there in 2015 to highlight the last few appearances. He also placed 10th at the bullring last year.
"It's a fun race track," he said. "Whether you're good or bad it's a fun track to get around."
Sides has scored a top-10 finish during three of his last six races at Tri-State Speedway, which had its originally scheduled date last weekend rained out.
"I'm glad they're making it up because we need to get these races in," he said. "Running at Tri-State Speedway is no different than most tracks. If you qualify decent and start up front you can be successful. "

Sides Eager for Midwest Races at Jacksonville and Tri-State This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions - QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (April 11, 2018) - Jason Sides is back in the Midwest and he's hopeful Mother Nature will cooperate.
Sides is scheduled to compete this Friday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. However, seven of the 16 scheduled shows this season have been rained out for 'The Greatest Show on Dirt.'
"Hopefully we can have some good weather and can get some racing in," he said. "We've only got to race four times in the last six weeks."
Sides has been consistent at both tracks on this weekend's radar. He posted an eighth-place result at Jacksonville Speedway in 2014 during the series debut before placing 11th in 2016. Sides has earned a top-10 finish during three of the last six races at Tri-State Speedway.
"Just like at most tracks our night will be dictated by qualifying," he said. "If we qualify well we'll set ourselves up for success."
Sides wrapped up the World of Outlaws spring western swing last Saturday at Arizona Speedway during the Arizona Desert Shootout. He qualified 15th quickest and placed fifth in a heat race to lock into the 15 th starting position for the A Main.
"It wasn't bad, but the bottom of the track went away pretty quick," he said. "There was some meat down there early, especially off the front straightaway. Then it got really slick around the bottom. I passed a few cars. We had a couple of restarts and it was one of those nights when I was in the wrong spot on each restart. About the last six or eight laps it rubbered up through the middle to top and maybe I should have been up there earlier."
Sides recorded a 14th-place finish.

Sides Aiming for Top Five During Arizona Desert Shootout at Arizona Speedway
Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (April 2, 2018) - Jason Sides is refreshed following a week off to celebrate the holiday weekend with his family.
"We had a great time together," he said. "I enjoy spending time with my family whenever we get the chance."
Sides will return to action this Saturday at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., during the Arizona Desert Shootout with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. It will mark his third visit to the track in the last three years.
"Last year when we were there it started out really good," he said. "There was a top and a bottom groove and later in the night the top was way around the top, but you could diamond off turns three and four. It made for a really good track."
Sides placed 11th at the oval during his debut in 2016 before he qualified third quickest, won a heat race, placed fifth in the dash and ended fifth in the A Main last year.
His goal for this weekend is to continue to progress at the bullring.
"A top five would be great," he said. "Getting qualified well is the biggest thing because that sets you up for the whole night."
Sides produced his best qualifying effort of the season during his most recent race, when he timed in third quickest.

Sides Motorsports Nets Two World of Outlaws Heat Race Wins in Bakersfield
Inside Line Promotions - BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (March 26, 2018) - Sides Motorsports picked up a pair of heat race victories last Saturday at Bakersfield Speedway during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series show.
Both Jason Sides and Tim Kaeding had strong starts to the night as Kaeding timed in second quickest with Sides posting a season-best third-place effort in time trials. Sides and Kaeding followed that up by each winning a heat race to lock into the dash.
"Qualifying sets everything up and then to win a heat race and make the dash is the first goal of every night," Sides said. "This was the best night Tim and I had going during this West Coast swing."
Kaeding placed fourth in the dash while Sides ended eighth.
"Tim was starting toward the front in the A Main so we mostly left his car alone, but we tightened mine up," Sides said. "I think Tim had a top-five car, but someone drove through him and broke his left rear shock."
Kaeding spent most of the race battling between third and 10th place with wild restarts jumbling up the field. He closed the race with a 10th-place finish, which marked his third straight top 10.
Sides struggled with a tight race car and he faded to an 18th -place result.
"I want to thank Tim for driving for us the last few weeks," he said. "It was a lot of fun working with him and he did a great job of running well."
Sides will be off this weekend before resuming competition on April 7 at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., during the Arizona Desert Shootout with the World of Outlaws.

Sides Motorsports Garners First Top Five of Season as Kaeding Places Fifth at Stockton
Inside Line Promotions - STOCKTON, Calif. (March 19, 2018) - Sides Motorsports captured its first top-five finish of the season last Saturday during the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout at Stockton Dirt Track.
Tim Kaeding rallied from 13th to earn a fifth-place result on a rough track that had been hammered with rain, which forced Friday's World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series opener to be rained out.
"With all the rain they've had it was wet on Saturday," Jason Sides said. "We didn't qualify as well as I wanted to. Then Tim and I were in the same heat. He got going pretty good. Giovanni (Scelzi) and Paul (McMahan) were duking it out in front of me and I thought maybe I could get by them both. The track was a little narrow so there wasn't a whole lot of passing and we never had an opportunity."
Kaeding timed in 11th quickest and Sides was 13th quickest in their group before Kaeding placed fourth in a heat race and Sides seventh. That locked Kaeding into the 13th starting position for the A Main, while Sides was relegated to the Last Chance Showdown.
"I thought we had a good shot at transferring," Sides said. "It was one of those things where the track was slick coming off and on the start someone got sideways and came across. It slowed our momentum and I don't think we had a caution. We were getting to traffic and I felt like I could have raced for that final transfer position, but we ran out of laps."
Sides ended fifth in the consolation race to miss a transfer by only one position.
Meanwhile, Kaeding was on a mission in the main event. He hustled into the top five by maneuvering around the holes on the tricky track.
"He was good on the bottom," Sides said. "He could run in there and get underneath guys. There was a big hole in turn one where you had to go above it or below it. Some guys would go in high and get to the middle of the corner and get really tight. He worked by them that way. He actually made some passes around the top of guys in turns one and two on restarts, too."
Both Sides and Kaeding will be in action for Sides Motorsports this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., for the Ocean Outlaw Showdown and Saturday at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.
QUICK RESULTS -
March 17 - Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif. (Jason Sides) - Qualifying: 13; Heat race: 7 (7); B Main: 5 (5).

Sides Motorsports Garners Top 10 in Tulare With Tim Kaeding Behind the Wheel
Inside Line Promotions - TULARE, Calif. (March 12, 2018) - Jason Sides enjoyed a different perspective last Friday during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event.
Sides focused on his role as car owner after his own qualifying result was near the back of the pack during the opening night of a doubleheader at Thunderbowl Raceway, where veteran Tim Kaeding also piloted a Sides Motorsports entry.
"I wanted to qualify better, but it didn't go as well as we hoped in the backup car," Sides said. "Our stuff wasn't running as well as it should and we decided it was going to be too risky to try to come from the back in a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown to make the A Main so we parked it for the remainder of the night."
Kaeding timed in eighth quickest in his group and he finished where he started - fourth - in a heat race to lock into the 16th starting position for the 35-lap A Main.
"We made changes all night freeing it up and getting him comfortable in it," Sides said. "Late in the race he was a lot better. I think it was a pretty good run."
Kaeding maneuvered to an eighth-place finish, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
Saturday's race rained out.
Both Sides and Kaeding will compete for Sides Motorsports this Friday and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout with the World of Outlaws.
"I like racing there," Sides said. "Last year we started off real well and led the first lap of the race. We had a power steering line rub a bolt and cut it so hopefully we're just as fast with a little more luck this year."

Sides Welcomes Tim Kaeding to Sides Motorsports Entry This Weekend in Tulare
Inside Line Promotions - LAS VEGAS (March 5, 2018) - Jason Sides is putting one of the Kings of the Thunderbowl into a Sides Motorsports entry this weekend.
Tim Kaeding will pilot a No. 7s sprint car on Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader. Kaeding has four career Outlaws wins at the bullring.
"I'm excited about it," Sides said. "I want to see him run well, especially for our sponsors out there. Tim is one of the top drivers at any race in Tulare so this should be a fun weekend."
Sides competed last Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas. Qualifying put him behind the figurative eight ball on both nights of the FVP Outlaw Showdown.
"The first night it was a bit rough and I thought we got through there good and we ended at the back," he said. "On the second night the top got so far around there I slowed down to the hit the bottom. I thought I hit it good, but I was still several tenths off."
Sides qualified 17th and 19th, respectively, and he placed ninth in a heat race both nights. He won the C Main before placing 10th in the Last Chance Showdown on Wednesday. Sides scratched from feature competition on Thursday.
The SoCal Showdown last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., rained out. It was the third World of Outlaws event in the first eight scheduled races to be cancelled because of inclement weather.

Sides Invading Las Vegas and Perris This Week With World of Outlaws
Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2018) - Jason Sides is heading to one of his most successful tracks this week with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Sides will compete on Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas for the FVP Outlaw Showdown before the weekend concludes on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., for the SoCal Showdown.
"We've been strong in Las Vegas quite a few times," he said. "It's a big track where momentum is important. We've been close to winning there and have picked up some podium finishes so hopefully we can get back to that level of success this week."
Sides has recorded seven top-five finishes and nine top 10s in 15 races at the half-mile oval since 2009, including three straight runner-up results in 2012 and 2013. He also secured at least one top-10 finish at the track each season for eight straight years before a weekend of bad luck stopped the streak last season.
Sides will venture to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday for the first of four straight weeks in California. He has improved his result at the track each of the last five years, including netting a top-10 finish the last three seasons.
"Perris is a big track with tight corners," he said. "Momentum can be critical there as well. The biggest thing is to get qualified well and stay up front all night. That's important every night, but at some tracks like Perris it's key for having a great result."
Last weekend's World of Outlaws races in Texas were rained out.

Sides Aiming for Smooth Weekend in Texas With World of Outlaws
Inside Line Promotions - GIBSONTON, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2018) - Jason Sides is seeking a smooth weekend as he returns to World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition this Friday and Saturday in Texas.
Sides will compete on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige and on Saturday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore for the East Texas LoneStar Shootout.
"Our debut at Cotton Bowl Speedway in 2016 was follow the leader without much passing and when we ran at LoneStar Speedway last year we were caught up in a crash," he said. "Hopefully we can have a couple of good nights this weekend and get back on the right track."
Sides was hampered by mechanical issues last weekend during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s at East Bay Raceway Park.
The tripleheader began on Thursday when Sides placed fifth in a heat race before he won a B Main to transfer into the 17th starting position for the 25-lap A Main.
"We were really good early in the feature," he said. "We picked up a few spots in the first couple of laps and were battling for a top 10 most of the race."
Unfortunately, a mechanical problem sent the team pitside with only four laps remaining while running 10th. Sides was credited with a 23 rd-place result.
The team changed engines prior to Friday's show to a 23-year-old engine Sides has relied on sparingly. Sides placed sixth in a heat race, second in a B main and 17th in the main event.
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Sides finishing fifth in a heat race to miss locking into the A Main by only one position. However, late in the race the engine developed a problem that was unable to be fixed and Sides was forced to scratch from the remainder of the event.
"We certainly didn't get the results out of the weekend like we wanted, but it's always a great weekend to spend down there with Kimball Wetherington and some of the people from Wetherington Tractor Service, Inc., as well as all of our fans and friends in that part of the country," he said. "Now we'll shift gears back to World of Outlaws competition in Texas before we head to the West Coast for a few weeks."

Sides Venturing to East Bay for Laid Back Event Supporting Long-Time Sponsor
Inside Line Promotions - BARBERVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2018) - Jason Sides is looking forward to a relaxing weekend at the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s, which is hosted by East Bay Raceway Park this Thursday through Saturday.
"One of our biggest sponsors, Kimball Wetherington of Wetherington Tractor Service, Inc., is based down there and supports the track and event so we always look forward to spending time with him," he said. "It's a laid back weekend where we go to have fun. Of course we want to win, too."
Sides, who was the event champion in 2002, won a preliminary night at the bullring near Tampa, Fla., in 2015 and 2016. He placed fourth and 18 th in preliminary competition last year before ending eight during the finale.
The event will be one of the rare 360ci winged sprint car races of the season for Sides, whose 2018 campaign with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series began last weekend at Volusia Speedway Park during the DIRTcar Nationals.
Sides entered the week with at least one top-10 finish during the event for the last 11 years.
"We didn't qualify well and that put us behind to start each night," he said. "We raced our way into the show each night, but didn't put ourselves in a good enough position to capture a top 10. The track was heavy and fast the first two nights so it was tough to move forward."
Sides qualified 20th quickest and placed sixth in a heat race on Friday during the World of Outlaws season opener. That missed a lock-in position by only one spot and relegated Sides to the Last Chance Showdown. He placed third in the race to transfer into the 23rd starting position for the A Main.
"When you qualify back there you have to make up a lot of ground in the heat race," he said. "Otherwise you're buried in the Last Chance Showdown and then the main event if you make it in. We did what we could on a heavy, fast track."
Sides advanced a handful of positions to place 18th.
Similar circumstances played out on Saturday as Sides timed in 30 th quickest in qualifying, advanced from eighth to sixth in a heat race to again narrowly miss a lock-in position to the A Main. He charged from 10th to third place in the Last Chance Showdown and maneuvered from 23rd to 20th in the main event.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with Sides qualifying 11th quickest. A sixth-place heat race finish locked him into the A Main since there were only three heats.
"All three nights was the same thing," he said. "When you're starting at the back like that it doesn't give you many options because you're constantly surrounded by a lot of cars. Dirty air makes it tough to maneuver and just when you get rolling someone can chop you on the bottom lane or slide up in front of you on the top. Once you lose a little momentum it really slows you for a couple of laps."

Sides Seeking to Extend Top-10 Streak at DIRTcar Nationals to 12 Straight Years

Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2018) - Jason Sides will once again start his season in sunny Florida.
Sides is slated to compete this Wednesday through Sunday at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville for the DIRTcar Nationals. The first two nights are sanctioned by the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions and the final three nights open the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season.
"You're always itching to go racing by this time of the year," he said. "We'll use Wednesday night as a test session and depending on that night we'll see if we race Thursday. The ultimate focus is to be prepared for the World of Outlaws opener on Friday."
Sides has earned a lot of success at the half-mile oval, where he has produced at least one top-10 finish each year during the DIRTcar Nationals since 2007.
"Volusia is a big, fast track where momentum is important," he said. "If you can set yourself up to start on the front row of a heat race, dash and/or the A Main you're in the best position because of clean air."
Sides qualified third quickest, fourth quickest and 12th quickest during the three World of Outlaws races at Volusia Speedway Park last season. He won his heat race during two of the three nights. Unfortunately, a broken nose wing on the opening night and a violent crash during the finale hampered his results.
"We set ourselves up well last year, but luck wasn't on our side," he said. "We had a top-five car both of those nights when circumstances happened that changed our fate. But we know how to get around that track and if we have that same level of speed this year I'm excited to see how well we can do."
Sides was victorious at the track in 2011.
